The British Government is drawing up plans to use unmanned "drone" aircraft currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan to counter terrorism and aid police operations in Britain,

The MoD is carrying out research and development to enable the spy planes, which are equipped with highly sophisticated monitoring equipment that allows them to secretly track and photograph suspects without their knowledge, to be deployed within 3 years.

The plans have been backed by The House of Commons Defense Committee but have attracted criticism from civil liberties campaigners concerned about the implications of covert surveillance of civilians.

Do you think it is a good idea for the United States to use this type of plan in some of its major cities?

Would it be stopped by civil liberty unions?

G'day Legend,

Well hello from down under mate; in relation to this thread it concerns me that when dealing with terrorism you people in the US still have to worry about the civil liberty unions. Whilst I was on one of my many trips to your wonderful country doing a Homeland Security Course I was amazed that nearly every topic/module discussed came back to these civil liberty groups, what a load of C..p. If you need to protect your country you do so in the best possible way within reason, the use of these unmanned aircraft are within reason as far as I am concerned.

Be interested to hear of other views...

Hi Mate,

Thanks for your response to what I consider a very important issue for the US. In America it is called "Freedom of Speech". I agree with you about the most important thing being the protection of the Country, however, others from different groups especially civil liberties groups, feel that it is dangerous, and the Government could get out of control which they have been accused of in the past.

sod the civil liberties assholes most of them are the terrorists mouthpeaces
the rest are too dumb to know or understand how the terrorists will use them time and time again and when finished with them will leave them to be arrested as a supporter of terrorisim, as OZ Chapter said it is a good thing to use resources not normally avaiable to the civil police forces, I have been to your great country many times and go at least 6 times a year for training we cant get in the united kingdom, I am llooking to go on the HomeLand Security
Course that OZ Chapter is talking about but cannot find it advertised anywhere on The Homeland Security Website.
